Finishing Chapter 3 edits means finishing Part 1 of Legacy of the Crimson Wraith, originally released as its own novella. It's very satisfying to see the editing process continue to focus on detangling overwritten sentences without meaningful changes to structure, plot, or character. Like they say about a house ideal for remodeling, it's got good bones.
It seems like there is less detangling needed as I go. And I see myself making more dynamic choices in narrative voice, which shows I became more comfortable and more confident as I continued.
Funny to remember that I took a break lasting over a year after getting part-way into chapter three in the first draft. Seems I figured out what I wanted to do with this story somewhere in the course of publishing the memoir of an old family friend, who I worked for in college, and regularly attending a literary open mic. Between the two, I must have gained some good writer enrichment, and Crimson Wraith benefited.
